In 1995, several of my maternal relatives and I decided to seriously pursue our family history. After our first group trip, later dubbed a "safari", the group became known as the SWAT team which stands for the Searchers of Winchesters, Armstrongs, and Thomases. The "team" has the following members: Edna Russell (my Mother) now deceased, James "Woody" Elwood Armstrong III (first cousin), Susan Armstrong, Shirley Armstrong Gabrielson (first cousin), Anne Mary Kearns (first cousin), James "Jamie" Elwood Armstrong IV (first cousin once removed) and Christie Russell. Prior to this concerted recent effort Shirley and Anne Mary had spent the late sixties and early seventies in Dorchester County gathering information.
